Volunteer Outreach Specialist - $18.85 per hour

Ride Connection is looking for a collaborative and engaging community builder and lifelong learner to join our Development and Marketing team as the Volunteer Outreach Specialist.

The Volunteer Outreach Specialist’s primary focuses are recruitment, retention, maintaining and building partnerships with community partners and transportation partners, and generating community recognition connected to Ride Connection’s volunteer program. The person in this role supervises volunteers and volunteer programs, coordinating volunteer onboarding and serving as a liaison between volunteers and their work with Ride Connection staff and transportation partners. The Volunteer Outreach Specialist is responsible for working closely with the Development Director and other Ride Connection teams and departments to develop, co-develop, and implement community outreach plans aimed at the recruitment of new volunteers. Connected to this, the Volunteer Outreach Specialist also supports the organization by doing hands-on community and relationship building with corporate and community partners that aims to increase community awareness of Ride Connection, representing the organization at various outreach events and speaking opportunities. The Volunteer Outreach Specialist reports to the Development Director.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting salary of $18.85 per hour and occasional evening and weekend hours. What You’ll Do

  • Recruit volunteers and support the placement of volunteers within Ride Connection and our service partners for driver programs, various committees, departments, and community programs.
  • Collaborate with Ride Connection staff and service partners to identify volunteer needs, training needs, and supervision needs for a variety of programs.
  • Develop and coordinate volunteer recognition and retention programs and activities that engage and energize volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Ride Connection teams and service partners to craft new creative approaches to volunteer recruitment and community engagement as the state of Oregon and counties collectively roll back mandates that were in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Creatively market volunteer opportunities to potential volunteers via online platforms, social media, and community tools and resources.
  • Identify and develop partnerships with businesses and organizations as springboards to recruiting volunteers and increasing community awareness of Ride Connection’s work and mission.
  • Represent Ride Connection in the community at various events and meetings.
  • Maintain up-to-date volunteer information in fundraising and relationship management programs like Raiser’s Edge and Thingtech and create reports from system data.
  • Work with the Training and Quality Assurance departments to ensure volunteers are in compliance with training and safety requirements.
  • Occasionally support the Development team on various special events.



At least two years of experience coordinating and/or supporting volunteer programs, including volunteer recruitment and training. Experience with online volunteer recruitment tools like social media platforms and volunteer forums. Comfort and experience with public speaking at events and giving presentations. The ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends. Must pass a National Criminal Record Check, which includes fingerprint identification.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual.
  • Multi-lingual.
  • Experience using fundraising and relationship management software and programs like Raiser’s Edge.
  • Experience, lived or otherwise, working with older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Experience recruiting for a variety of positions and roles in some capacity.
